One day God grew tired of human beings. They constantly pestered him with their requests for one thing after another. So he said: ‘I am going away for a while. I will hide somewhere.’ He gathered all his advisers around him and asked them: where shall I hide? What is the best place to conceal myself?’

‘Hide yourself on the highest mountain top on earth,’ some said.

‘No,’ said others, ‘hide yourself at the bottom of the sea. They will never find you there.’

And still others suggested: ‘hide yourself on the far side of the moon. That is the best spot. How could they ever find you there?’

Then God turned to his cleverest angel and asked him: ‘where do you advise me to hide?’ The clever angel smiled and said: ‘Hide yourself in the hearts of human beings. That is the only place they never go.’

Do you understand? Going to your heart means coming home to yourself.

Do not seek him in power, in wealth, in honour, for there you will not find him.

Return home, return to yourself.

For sooner will you find him in a stable, as a metaphor for our own humble heart.

A blessed Christmas!

“Me ergens verstoppen.

Zalig Kerstmis!
