The Diocese is now forcing the Partnership into motion with the usual unsympathetic power politics. Indeed unsympathetic, but the way things are going now in the Martelaren, it cannot continue either. Too few visitors, a shrinking and ageing team of volunteers: time for change.
Secondly, the Diocese follows the tactic of staying out of the line of fire itself. Thus the Diocese makes no statements about how to proceed, except the statement that we in the Partnership must manage to go from five church locations to a single central church.
Considerable steps have already been taken towards this reorganisation. The ABG has closed and sold the Anna-Bonifatius church hall.
The Urbanus has indicated that it is open to an entirely new purpose. De Graankorrel has moved its activities in De Nieuwe Stad to De Drie Stromen and sold the church hall.
Thirdly, the following. The parish council of the five parishes has now chosen to centre the activities for young people in the Petrus Banden. I think that is good. I think "something" must happen, and this is at least a "something". The Petrus Banden is also expected to hold a Eucharistic celebration there every week. As far as I am concerned, we grant the Petrus Banden all the time and means to arrive at new activities.
In my eyes, the bad energy comes from the Diocese, and I absolutely refuse to be forced into a struggle with other parishes by this bad energy. As far as I am concerned, then: full support for the Petrus Banden in her search for new activities, support for De Graankorrel and the ABG for their brave mergers, and support for the Urbanus in a new purpose.
What remains is the Martelaren.
What makes the Martelaren special are her buildings. Special about the Martelaren is her beauty. It is rightly a National Monument. Special too is her size, with 600 seats. None of the other parishes can house the Armenians at Christmas or Easter, who come with some 800 guests. None of the other parishes can handle larger events, such as funerals with more than 200 guests or their own Christmas celebration with more than 200 guests. Special about the Martelaren is her team of volunteers, who are still accustomed and able to guide larger events to success. Rejuvenation of the team or another solution for management is indeed necessary, but there is still time for that.
Thanks to the sale of churches, there is enough money within the Partnership. (Your money!) Thanks to the commitment of the SVD fathers, there are enough priests. If we find a fitting purpose for the Martelaren in the coming period, there is no reason not to see the Martelaren as a central church too.
Now all that remains is to convince the Diocese.

Laat ik beginnen met uitdrukkelijk te zeggen dat dit een persoonlijke reflectie van mijn kant is. Dat biedt mij de ruimte tot de volgende overwegingen.
Ten eerste is het al vele jaren duidelijk dat er “iets” moet gebeuren. Ik kan mij nog gesprekken herinneren uit de jaren 80 over de terugloop van kerkbezoek en dat er “iets” moet gebeuren. Het is dus niet zo dat deze problematiek van afnemend kerkbezoek ons overvalt. Er komt een moment van urgentie en actie. Het Bisdom dwingt nu het Samenwerkingsverband met de gebruikelijke onsympathieke machtspolitiek tot beweging. Inderdaad onsympathiek, maar zo als het nu gaat in de Martelaren, kan het ook niet doorgaan. Te weinig bezoekers, een teruglopend en verouderd kader: tijd voor verandering.
Ten tweede volgt het Bisdom de tactiek om vooral zelf buiten schot te blijven. Het Bisdom doet dus geen uitspraken over hoe verder, behalve de uitspraak dat wij in het Samenwerkingsverband van vijf kerkplekken naar één enkele centrumkerk moeten zien te komen.
Om tot deze reorganisatie te komen zijn ook al flinke stappen gezet. De ABG heeft de Anna-Bonifatius kerkzaal gesloten en verkocht.
De Urbanus heeft aangegeven open te staan voor een geheel nieuwe invulling. De Graankorrel heeft haar activiteiten in De Nieuwe Stad verplaatst naar de Drie Stromen en de kerkzaal verkocht.
Ten derde het volgende. Het parochiebestuur van de vijf parochies heeft er nu voor gekozen om de activiteiten rond jongeren te centreren in de Petrus Banden. Ik vind dat goed. Ik vind dat er “iets” gebeuren moet en dit is in ieder geval een “iets”. Ook wordt van de Petrus Banden verwacht dat daar elke week een Eucharistieviering is. Wat mij betreft gunnen wij de Petrus Banden alle tijd en middelen om tot nieuwe activiteiten te komen.
In mijn ogen komt de slechte energie van het Bisdom en ik wil pertinent niet tot strijd met andere parochies gedwongen worden door deze slechte energie. Wat mij betreft dus alle steun voor de Petrus Banden in haar zoeken naar nieuwe activiteiten, steun voor de Graankorrel en de ABG voor hun dappere samenvoegingen en steun voor de Urbanus bij een nieuwe invulling.
Blijft over de Martelaren.
Het bijzondere van de Martelaren zijn haar gebouwen. Bijzonder van de Martelaren is haar schoonheid. Het is terecht een Rijksmonument. Bijzonder is ook haar omvang met 600 zitplaatsen. Geen van de andere parochies kan met Kerstmis of Pasen de Armeniërs huisvesten, die met circa 800 gasten komen. Geen van de andere parochies kan grotere activiteiten aan, zoals uitvaarten met meer dan 200 gasten of de eigen Kerstviering met meer dan 200 gasten. Bijzonder aan de Martelaren is haar kader van vrijwilligers, die nog gewend en in staat zijn grotere activiteiten te begeleiden naar succes. Verjonging van het kader of een andere oplossing voor het beheer zijn wel noodzakelijk, maar daar is nog tijd voor.
Door de verkoop van kerken is er binnen het Samenwerkingsverband geld genoeg. (Uw geld!) Door de inzet van de SVD paters zijn er priesters genoeg. Als wij voor de Martelaren de komende tijd een passende invulling vinden, is er geen reden om niet ook de Martelaren als centrumkerk te zien.
Nu nog het Bisdom overtuigen.
